Composition Festival

The East Portland district’s 2025 Composition Festival introduces exciting new changes this year!

As always, OMTA students who enter their computer-notated scores in the Composition Festival will receive valuable feedback on their compositions from an esteemed professional composer - this year we feature Nicholas Yandell, the OMTA 2020 Composer of the Year. All styles, levels, and genres are accepted.

Printed booklets with scores from all district composers are available for a small fee of $10 each.

A portion of the entries from each age division are selected by the adjudicator as Honored Composers. Those students have the opportunity to move on to represent their district at the OMTA State Composition Festival.

Additionally, in our District Composition Recital on April 5th, students can see and hear the compositions of their peers in person - with the recital now open to any composers who wish to perform, separately from the adjudicated festival.

*NEW*  PERFORMANCE ONLY DIVISION / NON-ADJUDICATED

  • Unadjudicated portion of the recital for non-notated entries

  • Duets written together with a teacher, parent, or sibling

  • Arrangements or co-compositions

  • Recorded or electronic compositions can by played on a speaker

More information about the Composition Festival is available on the state OMTA website. Please review the festival instructions below before filling out the online registration.
